CES 2015 Preview: What We Might See From Sony, Samsung, Xiaomi And More At January's Tech Event

Though it may not feel like it, 2015 is quickly approaching, and CES 2015 is right behind it. Kicking off in Las Vegas on January 6, the Consumer Electronics Show will allow many of the world's tech giants a stage on which they can formally introduce the new gear they'll be rolling out next year. Not everyone is expected to announce something big, but here are a few companies you can expect to reveal something when January rolls around.



Sony is expected to be a big part of CES reveals in 2015 with the launch of its newest flagship smartphone in the Xperia line, the Xperia Z4. Further, the Xperia Z4 Ultra, a model with a bigger screen, is rumored to be getting a launch alongside the Z4, in a strategy not unlike what Apple did this year with the iPhone 6 and the larger iPhone 6 Plus. The Z4 is said to have a 5.4-inch Quad HD display, narrowly missing a "phablet" classification, while the Z4 Ultra is said to pack a 5.9-inch screen.


According to rumors, LG also has a launch up its sleeve for CES 2015. The G Flex 2, the sequel to LG's curved, flexible smartphone, is said to be preparing for a reveal in Las Vegas. The G Flex 2 will follow up on the original G Flex that launched in late 2013.


Another tech giant is rumored to be presenting something big at CES 2015, but many American consumers might not have even heard of them. Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has grown over the last several years to be the third-largest smartphone company in the world, behind only the Samsung and Apple juggernauts. Now, rumors have it that Xiaomi is planning on breaking into the American market with the launch of its Mi5 smartphone at CES. Xiaomi's big pull as a mobile manufacturer has always been affordability, and if they can leverage that advantage in the American market, this still-young tech company could balloon into a market leader across the globe. Keep your eyes peeled come January to see if this Chinese company ends up making its move toward American consumers.


Industry giant Samsung has had a rough year, and CES would be a good place for them to announce some new devices and reestablish some consumer trust. The Korean company has scheduled a CES press conference, but it's hard to say whether or not they'll use the opportunity to launch anything groundbreaking. The launch of the Galaxy S6 (and the rumored S6 Edge) will probably be closer to March and the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona. In fact, many announcements you may be hoping for at CES could very well be pushed back to MWC. HTC is another tech company that will likely keep its big announcements, like the HTC One M9, under wraps until March, according to PC Advisor.
